The Nordeste region of São Miguel is known locally as one of the
island's best kept secrets. Serpentine roads and the relatively long drive from
São Miguel make it less visited than other parts of the island but this will
certainly change when the proposed new road is opened. Peaks, waterfalls,
forests, pastures seascapes and historic architecture all vie for the visitors
attention and are more than enough to occupy a few days.
Just above the delightful little town of Nordeste the four star Estalagem dos
Clerigos, with its twenty-one rooms and four apartments, is more than just a
comfortable base from which to explore the area's natural delights. From the
hotel, and the swimming pool area, guests can appreciate the views over the
town to the ocean beyond so that exploring can be interspersed with a little

restaurant uses the most wonderful local produce, from both land and sea, to
prepare delicious meals.

the superb views.
