The beauty of the both the sea and landscapes around Caloura and its easy
access to Ponta Delgada and the rest of the island make it no co-incidence
that many of the wealthy islanders chose to build their farming estates and
holiday homes in the area. When Quinta Altamera came up for sale the
current owners jumped at the chance to buy it and use its natural beauty to
create a haven for both themselves and their guests.
As the quinta is spread over more than 16 acres, guests can enjoy the
feelings of both privacy and privilege as they stroll the beautiful grounds. In
the upper part of the estate the individual bungalows are arranged to provide
the maximum of privacy and each has its own garden area with views of the
parkland. There is a market garden area were all manner of fruit and
vegetables are cultivated, in addition to a swimming pool, tennis court, small
children's playground and a barbecue area.
Natural stone walls and hedges separate all the areas adding to the feeling of spaciousness and the lower
part of the estate leading down to the Atlantic has been left with all its
beautiful natural vegetation to provide private and diverse walks. There is
even a terrace in the lower grounds that is an excellent spot for ocean views
and spotting a little marine life.
The bungalows have either one, two or three bedrooms and each has a
bathroom with shower, an open plan living room and kitchenette complete
with a gas cooker and fridge. After a day out exploring the island's various
natural attractions there is nothing better than dining on your patio using the
quinta's own produce and enjoying the peace and tranquillity, unless of
course it is a little indulgence in one of the nearby restaurants.
