Bed & Breakfast, plus welcome and farewell dinners
Following
its success in 2007, we have decided to repeat his unique one-week holiday
giving participants the opportunity to discover some of the most famous sites
of south-west Turkey, as well as a number of little-known and scarcely visited
treasures that lie well off the beaten tourist track.
Travelling in a small group of no more than 12 people, the
holiday will offer a rather deeper insight into this fascinating country than
you would normally expect to gain in a week, thanks to your tour leader, none
other than our own managing director, Ghislain Sireilles.
Although
of British and French parentage, Ghislain was born in Izmir and spent his
formative years – and several weeks of the year ever since – in Turkey, so he
has long considered the country his spiritual home.
Due to Turkey’s sheer size and diversity, no one-week tour could
claim to do justice to the country as a whole, but Ghislain has picked the
must-see sights of the south-west region, which include archaeological
treasures such as the ancient sites Ephesus, Aphrodisias and Tlos, and natural
wonders such as the unique limestone terraces at Pamukkale and the stunning
canyon of Saklikent. In addition, you
will visit an unspoilt local village near Bodrum, where you will have dinner
with the villagers and overnight in a traditional village house.
The
base for this holiday, where you will spend four of the seven nights, will be
the delightful Mandarin boutique hotel, a suitably intimate and rather
luxurious venue. Accommodation for the
remaining three nights in the village of Etrim, at Selcuk near Ephesus and in
Pamukkale or Aphrodisias will be of a simpler, but still perfectly comfortable
standard. Informative yet informal,
this holiday will suit those who wish to visit some of Turkey’s most remarkable
sights in a small group of like-minded people instead of being herded around on
a mass-market coach tour. Travel will be by air-conditioned minibus, and the itinerary
has been designed to follow a relaxed pace.
This holiday can be extended by a
second week at Mandarin or one of our other properties.
